Surroundings

Jabuti is located in Murtais, between the villages of Fuseta and Moncarapacho. The holiday homes are situated on a small hilltop 50 meters high with a beautiful view of the sea, the hills, and the hinterland.

It is a 20-minute drive from Faro Airport, and you can be on the beach in Fuseta within 7 minutes.

Activities around Jabuti

There are a number of fun activities to do in Fuseta. If you are in the mood for some action and adventure after relaxing on the beach, you can visit one of the following places:

Dolphin spotting from Fuseta. Have you always wanted to see wild dolphins? Boat trips depart from Fuseta where you scan the ocean for wild dolphins together with the skipper. According to the captain, the chance of finding them is about 95% thanks to their years of experience! Ask us about the possibilities.

Kitesurfing in Fuseta. The most exciting activity to do on a windy day is a kitesurfing lesson. Thanks to the shelter of the Ilha da Fuseta barrier island, there are hardly any waves and very little current. The experienced kitesurf instructors will explain how to control the kite and make turns perpendicular to the wind.

Stand-up paddleboarding in Fuseta. Step onto an inflatable stand-up paddleboard and paddle under your own power across the crystal-clear water through the bay of Fuseta. Watch the fish swim past beneath the board and step off on the other side to explore Ilha da Fuseta. You can rent SUPs at ‘Sup in Fuzeta’.

Boat trip along the barrier islands from Fuseta. Sail through the calm waters of the Ria Formosa nature reserve. Stop at a few islands, keep your eyes open for local wildlife, such as dolphins, and enjoy a dip in the warm water of the lagoon.

Beaches

Fuseta beach is closest to Jabuti. At the end of the harbor, there is a small sandy beach in the bay. Right on the beach is a small beach bar called Borda d´Água. The beach lies within the lagoon, meaning there is little current. This makes it ideal for small children. The second beach, Ilha de Fuseta, lies across the same lagoon. A ferry runs back and forth regularly. The beach is equipped with all amenities: beach chairs and umbrellas, a bar/restaurant, and, of course, lifeguards are present during the season.

Olhão itself has no beach. Every day, ferries depart from the quay according to a strict schedule to the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. Armona and Culatra are Olhão's two beach islands. Here, the beaches are long, white, and expansive. A ten-minute walk takes you to your own private beach. Armona is the island closest to Olhão. It is slightly busier than Culatra because there is a small holiday park on it. Culatra offers no holiday accommodations. This island is home to families of traditional Algarve fishermen who have often lived here for centuries. The beaches are long and quiet, and as a day trip, we recommend a walk from the village of Culatra to the village of Farol, which is located on the same island.

Praia Farol. This small beach is situated in a sheltered bay, and in the summer, beach chairs and parasols are available for rent. You can book these a day in advance at the fantastic beach bar MarAmais. This bar also serves lunch and cocktails on the beach.

Praia de Tavira has the most restaurants and bars. There is also a campsite here during the summer months. These beaches are snow-white, long, and wide. The entire island is about 16 kilometers long. Both in the summer and in the sunny but somewhat cooler winter months, they are wonderful beaches for a day of sunbathing or for a long walk. Ferries sail regularly to the beach from the quay in Tavira and from Quatros Águas.

Eight kilometers west of Tavira beach lies Praia do Barril. This is perhaps the most popular beach in the Eastern Algarve. You do not need to take a ferry from the mainland to reach this beach. A diesel train runs back and forth regularly for beachgoers who do not wish to walk 1.5 kilometers. Barril is known for its anchors on the dune; a reminder of the tuna fishing with which the fishermen in this area traditionally earned their living. Praia do Barril has facilities for the disabled, a wide range of water sports activities, and various restaurants. Naturally, you can also rent parasols and beach chairs there. The official nudist beach is a two-kilometer walk to the west.

Praia da Fabrica is without a doubt one of the most fairytale-like beaches in the Algarve. This is the only place where, at low tide, you can cross the lagoon of the Ria Formosa Natural Park on foot. Fabrica is still a truly natural beach. There are no bars or restaurants, and it is a top favorite among the locals. In the neighboring village of Caçela Velha, there are two excellent restaurants for lunch or dinner.

Manta Rota beach is the first beach in the Eastern Algarve that is no longer located within the Ria Formosa Natural Park. You can park your car right on the beach. Manta Rota beach is a wide white sandy beach on a clear blue sea. Generally, there is little current and the seabed slopes gently. It is therefore a very suitable beach for children. Water sports are well represented on this beach. To top it all off, one of the best restaurants in the Algarve is located right on the beach: Restaurante Cha com Água Salgada. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner. Be sure to book a table here!

Fuseta & Moncarapacho

From Jabuti, you can reach our favorite village, Fuseta, in just 5 minutes.

Fuseta is a small, cozy, and charming fishing village. This charming village features narrow streets and traditional houses with decorative moldings (platibandas). Grab a seat on a terrace in the cozy village square or have a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants. The nice thing about this village is the lovely mix of locals, fishermen, and tourists sitting amicably side by side. In the harbor and along the promenade, the fishermen are at work. They sit in front of the small fishermen's huts, sell their fish at the market hall, or clean the fishing boats for tomorrow's catch.

Fuseta is known for its BBQ restaurants. You will see a barbecue with very fresh fish at every spot in the village. The stalls around the market hall are highly recommended. You won't get fresher fish, and you can choose it yourself. Enjoy!

Ilha da Fuseta. A different world, an idyllic beach island. That is the feeling you get when you stand on Ilha da Fuseta. You take the ferry or water taxi from the harbor and sail just 5 minutes across the lagoon.

A beautiful, long sandy beach stretches out before you, all the way to the next island, Ilha do Armona. You only have to walk a few minutes to find peace and space all around you.

During the season, you will find a few nice beach bars on Ilha da Fuseta. You can also rent sunbeds and parasols there. Outside the season, it is empty and unspoiled, and you will usually encounter walkers.

Moncarapacho is the other village that can be reached from us within 5 minutes. Here you will find a large supermarket, ATMs, a pharmacy, nice restaurants, and a beautiful church square where you can enjoy a nice lunch.

Wandelaars, fietsers, vogelaars

The Ria Formosa and the hinterland are perfectly suited for birdwatchers and nature lovers. There are beautiful walking routes through the Ria Formosa and the hinterland. With a little patience, you can spot the most beautiful tropical bird species.

In this protected nature reserve, you have countless opportunities to be active and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Whether it is during a run, a walk, a bike ride, or a workout: it is all possible. Paths have been laid out everywhere: along the lagoon, between the canals, salt pans, or on and to the islands. Paved roads and sandy paths alternate with wooden bridges crossing the lagoon, with small walking paths to discover everywhere.

The Ecovia do Litoral runs right through the Ria Formosa. This coastal route runs from Sagres in the west of the Algarve all the way to Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the Spanish border. Along the route, signs indicate which municipality you are in and what is nearby. In addition to these signs, you will also encounter wooden posts with yellow and red arrows and blue signs with a bicycle on them along the route.

"I stayed at Jabuti for a month and had a wonderful time. The house is beautifully decorated and practically furnished with a TV, Wi-Fi, and underfloor heating. The location is also great. Close to Faro airport and the border with Spain.

You can visit all kinds of charming villages or go to the beach for a day. Finally, the hosts are very helpful and kind. I can highly recommend them if you are planning a trip to the Algarve."
